Frequently Asked Questions
Can Sil.Vet Solution® treat aged wounds effectively?
The age or the condition of the wound does not limit the use of Sil.Vet treatment for the approved indications. Our clinical experience illustrates that stagnant and tenacious wounds have been successfully treated with Sil.Vet until complete healing was achieved.
Does Sil.Vet Solution® cause any damage to adjacent healthy, normal skin?
No. Due to the lower concentration of active Silver Ions, no damage is caused to the surrounding normal skin. Also, no pigmentation or darkening of the skin has been observed.
Does the syringe needle need to penetrate the wound?
No, the syringe does not need to penetrate the wound. The Sil.Vet Solution is applied directly onto the wound while the syringe is kept approximately 1-2 cm away
Is it necessary to first wash/irrigate the wound with saline and then soak the wound with Sil.Vet Solution®?
Sil.Vet Solution should be used by itself as a stand-alone solution. We recommend using Sil.Vet to irrigate the wound and rinse out any dirt or other matter that may be in the wound. The wound can be washed with soapy water prior to the application.
The wound wash with Sil.Vet should be used prior to the administration of dressing with Sil.Vet to the wound.
The use of any other solutions in combination with Sil.Vet might reduce its efficacy.
Is Sil.Vet Solution® environmentally friendly?
Yes, no special disposal is required
Is surgical removal/sharp debridement of necrotic tissue recommended alongside the Sil.Vet Solution® therapy?
Debridement in any form is symbiotic to use of Sil.Vet Solution® and hence, surgical removal/ debridement of necrotic tissue is beneficial as co-therapy with Sil.Vet.
What are the advantages of Sil.Vet Solution®?
- Provides continuous debridement, reduces inflammation, promotes blood circulation and stimulates tissue granulation.
- Promotes and balances moisture, penetrates deeper into the wound surface, facilitates the absorption and reduction of exudates and prevents maceration.
- Destroys biofilm, prevents re-infection: no bacterial resistance, inhibits the growth of bacteria, yeast and fungi.
- Soothing effect during the treatment, reduces pain and eliminates odor and improves appearance of skin.
- Non-toxic, non-cytotoxic, no argyria, no coloring and no staining.
- Contains no steroids or antibiotics.
- Contains no alcohol or iodine.
- Won’t harm healthy tissue.
What is the effect of the hypertonic solution?
The hypertonic property of the solution prevents maceration and facilitates the mechanical removal of exudates and micro-organisms.
What is the evidence for the elimination of infection?
During both case studies and clinical use worldwide, the elimination of infection and wound healing are evaluated by the wound color, odor, texture, tissue redness, formation of granulation tissues, etc.
What is the reason for the pain relief provided by Sil.Vet Solution®?
Glycerol and menthol contribute to the pain relief effect of Sil.Vet, as well as accelerated wound healing induced by the solution.
What is the recorded efficacy score of Sil.Vet Solution®?
59% wound size reduction in wounds measuring between 1-15 cm², within just 4 weeks (a superior result in comparison with Sheehan criteria in human clinical studies)
What makes Sil.Vet Solution far more effective in closing chronic wounds more rapidly than other formulations?
The unique combination of Sil.Vet Solution ingredients and their non-toxic and non-cytotoxic properties stimulates the growth of granulation tissue. Sil.Vet Solution prevents maceration and facilitates the absorption and reduction of exudates while keeping the wound moist for longer periods (due to the hydrogel property) thus accelerating the wound-healing process.
What type of wounds can be treated with Sil.Vet Solution?
Sil.Vet Solution is designed for cleaning, management and moisturizing small cuts to hard-to-treat, chronic wounds and burns.
While Sil.Vet is being used, can the subject be exposed to sunlight?
Yes, exposure to sunlight has no bearing on treatment.
Why does a low concentration of silver ions effectively function as an anti-microbial preservative in the presence of menthol?
During the development of Sil.Vet Solution, we discovered that there is a synergic effect between the silver ions and menthol, which enhances the penetration of silver ions through the bacteria cell wall into the bacteria. This enabled us to ensure that the concentration of silver ions remains below the toxic and cytotoxic levels.
Why does Sil.Vet Solution have hydrogel properties? How do such properties assist in chronic wound management?
The presence of a high concentration of hygroscopic glycerol gives Sil.Vet Solution its hydrogel properties due to the reduction of water activity by the glycerol, thus preventing the growth of micro-organisms. These hydrogel properties also help Sil.Vet to keep the wound moist for a longer time.
Will the subject experience any burning sensation due to silver/menthol?
No, the subject will not experience any burning. The subject initially may feel a stinging sensation which will dissipate in a short time followed by a slight cooling sensation (due to the presence of menthol) that contributes to the overall soothing effect.
